The limited-edition Montegrappa Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation: Ocean Collection signals the beginning of an important new partnership with the environmental organisation led by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
Montegrappa Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation: Ocean Collection is as regal and intriguing as its name suggests. Its unorthodox design combines heritage luxury values with brazen environmental messaging, and is made from dark-blue celluloid, cubic zirconia and two qualities of sterling silver. The silhouette’s unique cap/barrel configuration revives the proportions of 2013’s Genio Creativo: Salvador Dalí. But on this occasion, its purpose is functional. Each component is engraved with Victorian maritime illustrations. On the cap, fibre-laser engravings depict pristine seas and the foundation’s clean-oceans vision. The barrel appears similar but reveals a more sombre reality on closer inspection. The artistic contrast is arresting and draws a parallel between writing instruments and the fight to stem the flow of ocean waste. Dear Montegrappisti, We are pleased to announce the arrival of a stunning new Solidarity Edition writing collection – ready to ship to markets from beginning of July, 2022.
Trims are realised in polished silver, including a striking clip modelled on King Neptune’s trident. Satin-finish sterling silver is used for the barrel and for the main body of an elongated, deep-profile cap.
Further points of interest include parabolic cubic zirconia affixed to each end. Inspired by deep-sea exploration, they symbolise the need to look beneath the surface, while magnifying the foundation’s logo and the edition number. Rollerball and fountain pen options are issued in editions of 300. Fountain pens are cartridge/converter-fed, and are fitted with an 8mm, 18K gold custom nib (EF, F, M, B, Stub 1.1) and ebonite feed. Custom packaging is a stained-blue wooden case with foil-emboss. A bottle of blue ink is included with fountain pens, and each case contains a plaque inscribed with the foundation’s call to action.
