The oversized shape of the writing instrument mirrors Balzac?s bold
stature, whilst the clip embellished with turquoise lacquering on its
top symbolizes the author?s richly-decorated walking cane. Three rings
in the pen from top to bottom represent the social classes in the early
19th century, often a central theme in the works of Balzac. The first
ring plated in gold, the most ‘decorated, represents the nobility, the
second-plated platinum, the bourgeoisie, the third , the more ‘poor, the
working class. As if signed by the author himself, his initials are
finely lasered on the rhodium-plated Au 750 Meidum gold nib.
